I would not like to bore you with stories and verbal vituperations with this write up as best as I can, because I want it to serve the purpose of enlightenment for all well meaning NAKSSITE as well as every Kwara youth who believes in changing the weevil infested system that has been and is currently in vogue. I will also like to focus objectively on the current NAKSS leadership and their quest to maintain the bad precedence that NAKSS National leadership earned itself in recent time.
In the eve of 2015, the then NAKSS president, Comrade Makama came under fire over his alleged plan to elongate his tenure. His tenure was due in December and all plan to "Buy" time using diverse tactics failed. This struggle was achieved by some of the current NAKSS leaders who have not only failed the association in its entirety by misrepresenting and profiting at the expense of the student they claim to represent as I hope to prove with my write up;
On 5th of March 2016, the current NAKKS leadership led by Comrade Oyedepo Abdulhafeez were sworn in. Their emergence created a form of confidence among many NAKSSites probably because the election that brought them in that was described as one of the best so far that was not marred by violence in NAKSS history, thanks to electoral umpires. They swiftly swung into action and for the first time NAKSS was getting attention and support from "nominal students" of the state as opposed to the status quo where the association is usually run by a few for some privileged few who are either profiting from the crooked system that has been in place. The smooth ride, unity and determination of the new administration soon hit the rock after the Director General of the association allegedly led some faction which include the Senate president Sen. Nura Muhammed to the Government house following intense pressure from NAKSS over non payment of Bursary by the State government. The D.G and his team were 'rewarded' with a 'huge' sum of 100,000 Naira from the state government and this was the genesis of crisis in the current NAKSS Leadership.
It did not take much time before the President , Senate President and other executives joined in the ball game of profiteering at the expense of all Kwara state students. Their main focus became BURSARY, and Bursary alone as if that is the only problem facing kwara state students. They staged protests at will and collected 'settlements' from 'appropriate bodies' and shared proceeds among themselves. Their appetite got wider as they couldn't be settled with peanuts anymore and turned this to a means of getting funds to satisfy their personal financial needs.
Here is my independent findings of some of their financial dealings;
The Senate arm collects nothing less than 200,000 Naira per sitting and so far, they have held more than 6 sittings
The President has been alleged to collect over 3.5 Miliion Naira from the same coffers on behalf of the NAKSS for no meaningful reason.
The Director General as well as the Vice president are also indicted in the show of shame and astute misrepresentation and public exploitation for they have been alleged to have received nothing less than 500,000 Naira from the State Government on various occasions for reasons best known to them.
According to different sources; We can only ascertain their real financial dealing only if we request for statements of their transaction from the office of the Secretary to the State Government..
It is so disheartening that these same set of people in a bid to promote their greed and ply their corrupt route with impunity decided to sponsor a bill of tenure elongation and the controversial Senate President, Nura Muhammed is in the fore front of this insensitive move. They gave about 2 to 3 dumb reasons to justify this and planned to stay in office till June 6 2017 proposing to add more than 3 months to their normal and constitutional stay in office. If truly they have our interests at heart, what have they achieved in the past 11 months since they got into office that merits their claims.
My findings revealed that their action is due to a planned tactics of waiting on the state government to pay bursaries where they hope to profit from and enrich their selves. The president released a press release about a week ago about his readiness to conduct election and initiate transition ahead of the March 5th set date which they were sworn in.
The present NAKSS leadership has been a very huge disappointment and as a concerned Kwara state student, it is imperative that I voice out so that the pack of foxes we have at the realm of affairs of NAKSS leaves while we hope the birth of a re-organise, re-orientated, vision driven, purposeful and posterity conscious NAKSS. The current NAKSS have not only proven to be a failure but also clueless, insensitive and a shame to the new breed of twenty first century leaders who should be people of responsibility and integrity.
I am sure the Kwara State Government won't pay bursaries anytime soon even if the current Nakss leadership stage protests everyday and if they eventually pay, I am really sure they are smart enough not to ply the conventional route of manual payment where the FOXES at Nakss hope to profit. I therefore urge the parties affected to do the needful and respect their names and reputation (if they've got any) since they are not above the law and should also honour the High court oath they signed against tenure elongation when they assumed office.
In Conclusion, I enjoin all concerned NAKSSites, stake holders and other relevant persons to lend a voice as we call the already strayed NAKSS officials to order. We are tired for protest to enrich individual pockets. It's time we said to all NAKSS executives thanks for coming it was never nice having you lead us into shame.
Lets together say NO TO TENURE ELONGATION and let's bring SANITY to NAKSS.
LONG LIVE NAKSS
LONG LIVE KWARA
LONG LIVE NIGERIA
