Floods Kill 18 People, Damage N347 Million Property in Kano

The Zonal Coordinator for the National
Emergency Management Agency (NEMA),
Mr. Musa Ilallah, has said that no fewer
than 18 persons lost their lives from
recent floods. Mr. Ilallah also said
property worth millions of Naira were
destroyed by floods in 22 local
government areas of Kano State in the
past two weeks, according to a press
statement. According to him, properties
including houses and farmlands worth
more than N700 million were lost to the
floods affecting about 1000 victims.

“The worst affected local government areas are
Shanono, Bagwai, Kiru with 749 victims and
N347 million worth of properties damaged.
“The other LGAs affected are Rano, Kibiya,
Bunkure, Gabasawa, Dawakin Tofa, Kano
Municipal, Danbatta ,Takai , Dawakin Kudu,
Karaye, Rogo, Kura, Wudil, Bichi, Sumaila, Garun
Mallam, Ungoggo, Bebeji and Warawa,” he said.
He said that a NEMA/SEMA team had, during
the first phase of its assessment, visited the
affected LGAs to estimate losses incurred by
victims.
He said a final phase assessment, including
officials from SEMA , NEMA, Red Cross, and
NSCDC will visit the worst ravaged 3 LGAs of
Kiru, Shanono, Bagwai this week.
